THERAPEUTIC RIDING

Equine Assisted Activities Therapies (EAAT) is the use of the horse to achieve goals that enhance physical, cognitive, and sensory input. This is a unique and challenging opportunity for those with limitations to be empowered with a sense of pride while communicating with a 1200 pound partner. EAAT builds strength, confidence, and sense of independents for the rider. EAAT is great for individuals with Autism, ADHA, ADD, Learning Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

HIPPOTHERAPY

 Hippotherapy is utilizing a horse with a medical professional such as a physical therapist, occupational therapist or a speech therapist and a Certified PATH Instructor. The horses provide a unique neuromuscular stimulation when being ridden through their one of a kind movement.

While the client is riding or lying down on the horse, the horse's gait acts to move the rider’s pelvis in the same rotation as walking. The therapist uses the characteristic movements of a horse to give the individual a stretch in between the rider’s legs. It takes different types of horses to provide the perfect gait that best fits each individual. While riding or lying down, the horse’s adjustable gait promotes riders to use their muscle and middle part/core of their body to promote strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and confidence. 


Hippotherapy is a means of giving an individual a treatment goal that can help with muscle tone and breathing. Medical professionals often refer clients with Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida and limb dysfunction to this activity.

 


PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH AN EQUINE SPECIALIST

 Equine Psychotherapy  provides individuals or groups with learning skills of patience, self confidence, trust and compassion. Learning to trust such large intimidating animals requires patience, and time.  Horses can act as an aid by giving those with challenging issues a companion for which to care and learn to trust again. Grooming, such as brushing, bathing and currying a horse  have a relaxing and calming effect that will carry on into their everyday lives.
